Passive safe

“Certified passive safe aluminium lighting columns of Sapa Pole Products, now also 100NE3”

The Netherlands A6 - 100LE3Road safety has always been an important issue for Sapa Pole Products. Since the 1970s we have already carried out several crash tests. Currently the EN-12767 (part of the EN-40), describes the elements on passive safe lighting columns. The requirements for the crash tests have been clearly identified. At the moment there are several classifications for passive safe lighting columns.

In these classifications the safety of passengers is key. By using columns according to these classifications it is not necessary to use protective safety fencing.   The EN-12767 describes how the lighting columns have to be tested. These crash tests have to be performed by an accredited test house. Besides that the tests have to be reviewed by a Notified Body (an independent institution appointed by the European Commission). This Notified Body can give a “certificate” for the tested columns. Only then can it be classed as a passive safe lighting column according to the EN-12767.

Sapa Pole Products is the first producer of aluminium lighting columns with a range of certified columns.

Go to the CertificateThis means that the columns are crash-tested and reviewed with a speed of both 100 km/h and 35 km/h.

Due to the fact that columns can have a different performance by different speeds, it is necessary according to the EN-12767 to do both tests.

Our crash tests are performed by an independent test centre TNO Automotive (accredited test house) and then reviewed and certified by TNO Certification (Notified Body).
