Design is the key for Volvo’s new load rails
Volvo is well known for its high standards of safety. And as a working partner, we at Sapa Automotive have been fortunate to be involved in the car giant’s mission to make constant improvements in vehicle safety standards.
The solution is unique; partly because the fastening hooks can be moved and placed anywhere along the load rails, and also because they sit flush in the floor when not in use. “The sliding hooks make it much easier to adapt the fastenings to the volume of the load,” said Carin Stenmark, Project Leader at Volvo Cars. “And using the eyelets fitted to the side panels adds another dimension. This system offers an infinite number of possibilities when securing loads.”
Sapa – the sounding board
VCC – the Volvo Car Corporation, were responsible for constructing, testing and validating the new system, whereas Sapa took the role of an active development partner – a sounding board for ideas and solutions both large and small.
Integrating cross-sections
Aluminium is used in V70 and XC70 models and has replaced the steel eyelets and brackets found in previous models.
The idea of integrating different functions using the cross-section of the aluminium rail profile is a perfect example of the co-operation between Sapa and Volvo employees.
A frank and open discussion
Design, quality and accessibility are the keywords today. Simply producing a good product isn’t enough – the relationship you have with each customer is vital. You have to keep your mind open to new thoughts and ideas throughout the process.
