What is Cradle-to-Cradle?

 “The Cradle-to-Cradle concept is a new approach to durable design”.

Prof. Michael Braungart developed, together with architect McDonough, the principles of the Cradle-to-Cradle concept. This is based upon the central thought: ‘Waste equals food’. When products are at the end of their life span, all materials should be able to be used in another product. There is a distinction between the technological cycle and the biological cycle. When designing for the technological cycle, to which an aluminium lighting column belongs, all components that are made of different materials, should be able to be easily separated at end of life. The materials and substances of the product should not suffer any downgrade and can therefore be used in an eternal cycle.
To understand if a product can be used safely in a cycle as biological or technological nutrient, the materials used should be evaluated completely. It is also a requirement that the product characteristics during production, during use, after use and their possibility to be recycled are also examined.

The Cradle-to-Cradle certification makes it possible to set measurable objectives with the environmentally friendly design of our lighting columns. It also enables us to support customers that strive for a broader definition of quality in their purchase.
By undertaking collaborations with other companies and having a critical view towards our complete production process, the Cradle-to-Cradle principle can be worked out and knowledge can be gained, which allows continuous improvements to be implemented.
One of the projects we are currently working on is creating a return system for our customers, which makes it possible to return end-of-life lighting columns and acquire new ones.
