Eve – The light weight aluminium bracelet

Pascale Cottard-Olsson together with the designer trio Claesson Koivisto Rune have developed in co-operation with Sapa Profiler an aluminium bracelet that has attracted much attention. Read an excerpt from Pascale Cottard-Olsson’s press release published for the opening of her exhibition on February 8.

Aluminium is a fantastic material. Strong. Light weight. Beautiful. It is common in technical structures where it is produced and formed on an industrial scale, but it is rarely seen in situations where the beauty of aluminium can stand out.

Extrusion of profiles is a typical area of application for aluminium. This where Sapa Profiler is a world leader. Window frames or cooling ribs in electronic equipment can be named as some common examples. Very technical and very industrial. Pascale Cottard-Olsson is the driving force in Stockholm’s design circles. Through her gallery and collection, she has persistently emphasised the artistic values of design. The designer trio Claesson Koivisto Rune have designed a unique piece of jewellery for the Collection Pascale. A bracelet called Eve.

Eve is a piece of jewellery made of extruded aluminium.

- By twisting the finished element and cutting it at different angles a great number of bracelets with various dimensions is created. Apart from this, we have decided to obtain variation by using different kinds of surface treatment which results in varying character of the bracelets, say the members of the designer trio. So even if the process is an industrial one and the raw material is formed in the same die, there are not two bracelets that are exactly the same.

P.S.(1) For technical reasons, the bracelet is available with only one opening dimension. This makes that it will not fit on the hand of most men. In other words, the bracelet is for women. This is why it has been given a female name – Eve.
P.S.(2) Aluminium is durable. But if you wear the bracelet out anyway or maybe become tired of it, it is, of course, fully recyclable.

Claesson Koivisto Rune have appeared as a designer trio since 1995 when they established their architect’s office. They work with both architecture and design in a classical Scandinavian spirit. They have received a number of awards both in Sweden and abroad for their interior and product design. They have completed more than 200 different projects together. Some examples for their architectural projects include the Culture House in Kyoto; No. 5 House; the residence of the Swedish Ambassador in Berlin; Gucci Stockholm; Louis Vuitton Stockholm and Scandinavian Airlines Euroshop.

Pascale Cottard-Olsson was born in France, but she has lived in Sweden for more than ten years. After her studies in France and the USA, she decided to concentrate on her passion: art and design, and in 1998 she started a gallery in Stockholm (Gallery Pascale at 15 Humlegårdsgatan). Since 2000 the gallery has mostly concentrated on design. Pascale is also a design historian and gives lectures all over the world. She also writes articles to different magazines, for example the Swedish interior design magazine “Sköna Hem”. You can visit Gallery Pascal from February 8 to March 20 to see the bracelet Eve.
