Transforming aluminium into a unique product
Transforming aluminium into a unique product
Together with its clients, Sapa develops profiles that are designed in such a way that they require as little finishing as possible. In most cases, however, clients require further processing of the extrusions.
Thanks to its material properties, aluminium is an outstanding material to work with. However, one needs to clarify the size of a production run at as early a stage as possible because this information is important when deciding the most suitable process to use.
The further processing of aluminium is divided according to the manner in which the shaping is carried out.
Plastic deformation:
This field covers draw bending, roll bending, stretch bending, press bending, thread forming and hydroforming (forming using a high internal pressure; described in detail on another page).
Chipless processing:
This includes methods such as stamping and cutting.
Machining:
This term is used to describe processes such as turning, drilling, sawing and milling, for example complex, computer-controlled deep milling using CNC machining centres.
Thanks to Sapa’s advanced technology, significantly higher cutting speeds can be achieved with aluminium than are possible with steel.
It is possible to machine untreated as well as anodised or painted profiles.
