Our History

Sapa Limited was first established in the UK as a sales office for Sapa Sweden, based in Slough.  Extrusion operations began with a single press operating in Tibshelf in 1973.  The plant was extended with the installation of 2 extrusion presses and remelt facilities.  The Holmewood plant, 7 miles from Tibshelf, was established with one press in 1980.

Indalex was established in 1961 and subsequently acquired by RTZ who were operating two plants at Cheltenham and Widnes under the control of RTZ Pillar.  The RTZ Pillar operation was sold by RTZ to Caradon in 1993 who in turn sold the Indalex operations a management buyout.  The Widnes operation was closed in 1995 and its business, with one of the presses, was transfered to Cheltenham.

The company was purchased by the Sapa Group in 1996, and substantial investment has been made to ensure the future of UK manufacturing, with two new extrusion presses being installed in 1999 and 2008.
