Extrusion - technology of aluminium forming

There are plenty of techniques used to shape aluminium and aluminium alloys. All of them are based on the plastic deformation making changes in shapes, dimensions and physical properties of an in-process object. The most wide-spread methods include extrusion, rolling, forging and drawing processes.

Along with drawing, the hot extrusion is the most frequently applied technology. Benefits include production of various types of extrusions (profiles) with simple or complicated cross-sections, rather high accuracy of dimensions and quality surfaces in just a few operations. Relatively great differences in the deformation behaviour of individual types of alloys, the different methods of hardening, the requirements for variety of shapes, properties, characteristics, etc. cause that there are several options available in the hot extrusion technique. They are referred to as direct, indirect and hydrostatic types of extrusion. The most frequently used one is direct extrusion.
