Extrusion process

During the extrusion process preheated aluminium logs are pushed through a die, resulting in a standard or custom-made profile.

EXTRUSION PROCESS

The extrusion process takes place in the following main stages:

  • Heating the billet to the plasticity temperature (approximately 450° C)
  • Pushing through the die under high pressure in one of our four presses
  • Cooling when the profile is straightened
  • Stretching the profile
  • Cutting to size
  • Ageing’ in an oven at approximately 170°C, depending on the mechanical properties required.

ADVANTAGES OF ALUMINIUM EXTRUSION

  • An almost limitless range of product shapes
  • Fewer components are used, which reduces costs and speeds up the assembly process
  • Close cooperation with the customer during product development
  • Multiple profiles can be extruded at the same time
  • Thin-walled profiles are possible
  • Aluminium has a good weight/strength ratio. Extrusion makes it possible to view the metal on the exact spot where it is required and where extra strength is necessary.

ALUMINIUM EXTRUSION AT SAPA RC PROFILES

Sapa RC Profiles has four presses, making it possible to supply a full range of profiles: from small to big and large, from simple to complex shapes.
Sapa RC Profiles is the only manufacturer in Europe capable of extruding profiles with a maximum weight of 65 kg/m, a maximum width of 620 mm and maximum lengths of 26 m.
