Thermal Design Centre
Sapa’s Thermal Design Centre is a unique resource for cooling research and knowledge.
There are four basic areas of development: Heat transfer, heat sink design, materials technology and production methods. We pursue existing theories, computer-simulate solutions and also conduct practical experiments to confirm results.

Designing the right cooler
Sapa Thermal Design Centre has a simulation software for heat sinks called Rapid Cool that facilitates feasibility studies of heat sink concepts.
For example, a heat sink was made 40% more efficient while saving 30% of its weight as an added bonus. The original component was put through our proprietary
analysis programme. This resulted in a different heat sink design with narrower, more closely spaced fins.
Actual heat sinks are designed with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and Finite Element analysis, and tested in our purpose-built wind tunnel.
