On February 15, 2012, Sapa Group, Sweden, the leading aluminum solutions provider in the world, celebrates another milestone in its development in China – the opening of Sapa Profile (Jiangyin) Co., Ltd.. Several distinguished guests are attending the grand opening ceremony; Shen Jian, Mayor of Jiangyin, Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Sapa Group, Jarle Dragvik, Managing Director of Sapa Profile (Jiangyin) Co., Ltd., and Bengt Johansson, Consul-General of the Swedish Consulate General in Shanghai.
Although the Sapa Group has had a presence in China since 1996, Sapa Profiles Jiangyin Co., Ltd. is the group’s first aluminum extrusions plant in China, specializing in the development, manufacturing and distribution of value-added aluminum profiles. The Sapa Group is looking to expand its business presence in Asia with Sapa Profiles Jiangyin Co., Ltd. as a base; “With the opening of Sapa Profiles Jiangyin, we are reinforcing our ability to serve customers in the region. By utilizing the experience and technical knowledge in Sapa, new solutions will be brought to these markets, benefiting both our local and global customers”, says Svein Tore Holsether, President & CEO of the Sapa Group.

Sapa Profiles Jiangyin Co., Ltd. will become the production center for Sapa Profiles in the Yangtze Delta. “Our ambition is to move from local production to regional production, and thereby better satisfying the increasing demand for Sapa’s aluminum profiles in China and Asia. By utilizing the process improvement skills and technical capabilities in the Sapa system we can play a central role in developing the new-generation aluminum products and solutions for the local markets”, Jarle Dragvik explains.
Sapa also has a presence in other parts of Asia. The last year the company established aluminium extrusion and fabrication facilities in India and Vietnam. Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Sapa, says ”Aluminum profiles is the largest of the Sapa Group’s three business areas. We are market leaders in Europe and North America, and we have been looking to get a global foot-print both to be able to serve our existing customers in Asia as well as strengthening our position on the local markets. The Chinese market is largest in the world and Sapa wants to be a key player in this market”. In the next few years we are planning to increase Sapa’s profiles’ business substantially in China”, says Svein Tore Holsether.
On September 26, 2011, Sapa Group signed an agreement with Jiangyin (Haihong) Non-Ferrous Materials Co., Ltd. (“Haihong”), to acquire the assets and the business of its aluminum profiles facility in Jiangyin. The acquisition was closed on December 7, 2011.
Sapa Profiles Jiangyin Co., Ltd. specializes in the development, manufacturing and sales of value-added profiles in the lightweight material aluminum. Its current business includes profiles for the industrial, solar and building & construction markets among others. The company is expanding into the middle and high-end markets, such as mass transportation (marine, rolling stock etc), heat sinks and automotive. The production capabilities comprise 15 presses (from small 600 tonnes to a 3,600 tonnes UBE Press). Including Sapa improvements and the 6,800 tonne press under installation, the annual extrusion capacity will increase to approx 95k tonnes in 2015. The company also has capacity for casting, anodizing, powder-coating, and fabrication.
