Aluminium scrap is increasingly being used in the production of aluminium. Basically, all existing aluminium may eventually be recycled into new generations of products.
Benefits of recycling:
- No loss of quality
- Only a small percentage of material loss
- Extremely minor energy consumption (5% of the original fuel consumption).
By recycling aluminium, the emission of greenhouse gases is also drastically decreased. In the production of 1,000 kilos of recycled aluminium, 4 tons of greenhouse gases are saved in comparison with the production of primary aluminium.
In order to reach a goal of 100% recycling, current products must be designed to permit future recycling. This involves taking into account that products will need to be sorted and disassembled at the end of their life cycle.
