Other Emissions to Air
Sapa works diligently to reducing environmentally harmful emissions to the air.
In 2011, Sapa plants emitted 358 tonnes of nitrous oxide (NOx), 38 tonnes of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and 164 tonnes of volatile organic compounds (VOC).
Sapa plants use the carbon footprint calculator which is built into the online environmental metric reporting system and calculates Sapa's direct CO2 emission (from burning fossil fuels at the sites) together with iemission (from purchased energy at the place of elecricity generation)
Sapa North America, by improving energy efficiency, has during 2011 prevented the release of 7,115 metric tons of CO2e and over 27,000 metric tons of CO2e from energy providers.
Sapa locations have greatly reduced the amount of ozone-depleting refrigerants such as HCFCs, with newer, more environmentally friendly substances such as R422a or R422d.
