The oxide skin which forms on aluminium does not adversely affect the metal. In fact, the hard skin protects it. As it is not necessary to paint the columns two or three times during their lifespan, aluminium columns are usually supplied in satin brushed finish (untreated). Electrostatic powder-coating is carried out only for aesthetic reasons. Should a column with a powder coat become damaged, the aluminium will not be negatively affected, thanks to its natural properties.
