Through extrusion, aluminum can be formed into intricate designs and manufactured to the specifications of complex mounting systems, frames and other structural components, a process that cannot be replicated with steel. Extrusions are made from malleable aluminum alloy that has been forced through a die, producing solid, semi-hollow and hollow shapes that have dimensional accuracy and excellent surface quality. Extruded parts can range in size from one millimeter to large extrusions that are several feet long.

This line of extruded rod, bar and hex products, available in 6061, 6082, 6042 and 6262 free machining alloys, provides higher speeds and feed rates, increased machine efficiencies and improved recovery of machined parts, thereby lowering operating costs for screw machine operations and machining centers and preventing tool wear.

Alloy 6061, in particular, is superior for structural applications due to its solid mechanical capabilities and superior weldability. After welding, the product will have less strength than before welding, but the material can be heat-treated and artificially aged again to restore its strength. Alloy 6061 beams provide lightweight support for structures, raceways, frames and supports in buildings, overhead support, enclosures, machine housings, rails, etc.

Aluminum is lightweight (only 30% of the weight of steel), strong, extremely malleable, does not rust or corrode, can be welded, riveted, bonded and bolted, is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity (and lighter than copper), is non-magnetic, can be finished in many different ways to enhance its appearance (painting, anodizing, coating) or to imitate steel, iron or wood, and is 100% recyclable.
