Aluminum Extrusions For Building Structures
With decades of experience in the manufacture of aluminum extrusions for building structures and other applications, Sapa Extrusion offers advanced solutions for your most complex design problems and a level of quality that is unsurpassed in the industry. Our broad range of standard and custom shapes also enjoys heavy application in the mass transit and solar and renewable energy markets.
Through extrusion, aluminum can be formed into intricate designs and manufactured to the specifications of complex mounting systems, frames and other structural components, a process that cannot be replicated with steel. Extrusions are made from malleable aluminum alloy that has been forced through a die, producing solid, semi-hollow and hollow shapes that have dimensional accuracy and excellent surface quality. Extruded parts can range in size from one millimeter to large extrusions that are several feet long.
We proudly offer a comprehensive selection of aluminum structural angles, C-channels, U-channels, tees, zees, I-beams and H-beams, through our highly sought after ACC-U-LINE™ product line.
At Sapa, we use both 6xxx series aluminum alloys and proprietary alloys in the 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, and 7000 series, and standard and special tempers, to satisfy the most complex size and shape requirements of our customers. Our comprehensive product line includes:
Standard and custom shapes up to 22.5” circle size
Seamless pipe and tube up to 15.375” O.D.
Structural pipe and tube up to 8.625” O.D.
Rod up to 12.125” diameter
Square bar up to 9” thickness
Rectangular bar up to 19.6” width
Heat sinks with fin ratios up to 16:1
This line of extruded rod, bar and hex products, available in 6061, 6082, 6042 and 6262 free machining alloys, provides higher speeds and feed rates, increased machine efficiencies and improved recovery of machined parts, thereby lowering operating costs for screw machine operations and machining centers and preventing tool wear.
Alloy 6061, in particular, is superior for structural applications due to its solid mechanical capabilities and superior weldability. After welding, the product will have less strength than before welding, but the material can be heat-treated and artificially aged again to restore its strength. Alloy 6061 beams provide lightweight support for structures, raceways, frames and supports in buildings, overhead support, enclosures, machine housings, rails, etc.
Some say aluminum is the metal of the future; and with good reason. Extruded aluminum profiles are everywhere, and they are growing increasingly popular as more industries discover their benefits. Aluminum is lightweight (only 30% of the weight of steel), strong, extremely malleable, does not rust or corrode, can be welded, riveted, bonded and bolted, is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity (and lighter than copper), is non-magnetic, can be finished in many different ways to enhance its appearance (painting, anodizing, coating) or to imitate steel, iron or wood, and is 100% recyclable.
As part of the world’s largest aluminum profile company, Sapa Extrusions is an ideal partner during every step of the process from production to finishing to assembly and packaging. We have locations in 40 countries in North America, South America, Europe and Asia, giving us a global reach and local presence.
Our application engineering, manufacturing, design and marketing specialists can assist with aluminum extrusions for building structures and for virtually any other unique application.
