Aluminum Tubing

Sapa Extrusion, North America’s premier supplier of aluminum pipe and tube, offers a product for virtually any type of application, ranging from high pressure and mechanical to architectural and framing. We are pleased to offer a full range of extruded aluminum tubing sizes for residential and commercial construction, manufacturing, and industrial applications.

As a widely used aluminum profile shape, aluminum tubes are available in square, rectangular and round shapes in a range of sizes based on the outside dimensions. The tube’s strength is a factor of the aluminum alloy used, the thickness of the walls, and the size of the tube. Tubes of larger diameters can withstand less stress and pressure.

Round tubes are available in the widest variety of sizes, from an outer diameter of 5/8 inch to 16 inches and wall thicknesses of 1/16 inch to 1 inch. Round aluminum tubes are most commonly produced from 6061 alloy to give them superior strength, a good surface finish, excellent resistance to corrosion from sea water and atmosphere. In addition, they are heat-treatable and easy to weld, cut, form and machine. Used extensively in the manufacture of marine and automotive components, round tubes play a major role in many different types of construction projects.

Rectangular and square aluminum tubes are usually available in fewer size variations than round tubes. With square defined corners on both the inside radius and outside radius, rectangular and square tubes typically range in size from 1/2 inch to 8 inches per side, with wall thicknesses of 1/8 inch for smaller tubes to ½ inch for larger tubes.

Produced from both 6061 and 6063 alloy, 6063 alloy rectangular and square tubes make excellent exposed components for architectural use due to their superior finishing qualities. Tubes from 6061 alloy are ideally suited for structural components because the alloy offers a high resistance to corrosion from environmental conditions. It is the most versatile and least expensive of the heat-treatable aluminum alloys and is used where appearance and moderate strength are needed.

In addition to an extensive selection of aluminum tubing sizes, Sapa Extrusions also offers a wide range of aluminum rod, bar, and pipe, plus structural angles, channels, tees, zees and H-beams. Our expertise shows in every ounce of our standard and custom shapes, up to 20” circle size. Employing the latest state-of-the-art technology for the design and manufacture of extrusion tooling, our application engineering, manufacturing, design and marketing specialists can assist you with custom solutions for all of your unique applications.

Additional Aluminum Tubing Information:

Aluminum Square Tubing

Aluminum square tubing is an extruded product with a large number of uses in all types of fabrication and building projects due to its light weight, relative strength and superior resistance to corrosion, among other favorable qualities. Produced in 6063 and 6061 alloys, aluminum square tubing features defined square corners on both the inside and outside radius.

Aluminum Rectangular Tubing

Aluminum rectangular tubing is an extruded product with a vast number of uses in all types of fabrication and building projects as a result of its light weight, strength, hardness, superior corrosion resistance, machinability and weldability. Rectangular tubing ranges in size from 1/2 inch to 8 inches per side, and has square defined corners on both the inside radius and outside radius. Architectural tubing is typically extruded from aluminum alloy 6063, while structural tubing is usually extruded from alloy 6061. However, aluminum tubing can also be extruded in high-strength 2024 and 7075 alloys.

Aluminum Tube Sizes

Rectangular tubing made from 6063 alloy, which features small amounts of copper and magnesium, is the lower-strength choice with a tensile strength of 27,000psi and yield strength of 32,000psi. It’s generally produced in sizes that accommodate thinner wall design and offers better corrosion resistance and a smoother finish surface than 6061. Its finish looks good as-is, but it can be easily anodized. 6063 rectangular tubing is easy to weld, cut and machine, so it is commonly used for an exposed material in architectural trim, door and window frames, furniture components and trim, safety and deck structures, athletic equipment, fencing and support columns.
